Ruapekapeka Seal Extension
Enhancing Access to a Historic Landmark
The road leading to Ruapekapeka Pā, one of New Zealand’s most significant battle sites near Kawakawa, has been sealed, greatly improving access. This project involved upgrading and sealing 5.3 kilometres of Ruapekapeka Road, extending from State Highway 1 to the pā and the British encampment. Key improvements included road widening, major drainage enhancements, corner realignments, and the installation of eco-friendly paving at the Monument Road intersection to manage stormwater and protect historic trees. Throughout the project, careful attention was given to preserving the site’s important historic landmarks.
Dynamic Onsite Design Adaptions
NCC played a pivotal role in this project, bringing its expertise to the forefront by broadly enhancing design elements to improve the road alignment and driver experience. This flexibility was crucial as it allowed the team to respond dynamically to the site's unique challenges. Additionally, we took on the responsibility of site supervision, overseeing every aspect of the construction process. This involved close monitoring of the work to ensure that all project components, from road widening to drainage improvements, were executed to the highest standards.
