High Performance Long-Life Markings

Throughout the Auckland and Northland Region

High-performance, long-life road markings have been introduced to enhance road delineation and safety, especially at night. NCC was tasked with the design and delivery of these road markings and developing a management system to ensure optimal performance throughout their lifespan.

The two main types of road marking products used in New Zealand are selected based on their specific strengths, such as durability, visibility, and ease of application. One type may excel in reflectivity and nighttime visibility, while the other might offer enhanced durability and resistance to heavy traffic wear. Recognising these differences is crucial for choosing the appropriate product for varying road conditions and traffic volumes.

The project involved supervising the application process to ensure that the road markings are installed correctly. This includes verifying that the materials meet the necessary standards and are applied according to best practices. By closely monitoring the implementation process, NCC ensures that the road markings provide maximum safety benefits from the outset.

Management and Maintenance

Substantial effort went into developing a management process for the interface between capital installation of the markings and on-going maintenance of the road and its effect on continuity of the markings. This system includes regular inspections, maintenance protocols, and strategic renewal to keep the road markings in optimal condition.
